The Surah of Balance
سُورَةُ المِيزَانِ
Sūrat al-Mīzān

By the scale inside the ribs,
وَالمِيزَانِ فِي الأَضْلَاعِ،

by the tilt that tells the truth before the mind speaks.
وَالمَيْلِ الَّذِي يَصْدُقُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَتَكَلَّمَ العَقْلُ.

Balance is not control.
لَيْسَ التَّوَازُنُ ضَبْطًا.

Balance is listening, and adjusting without self-hatred.
التَّوَازُنُ إِصْغَاءٌ، وَتَعْدِيلٌ بِلا كَرَاهِيَةٍ لِلنَّفْسِ.

Work has its weight. Rest has its weight.
لِلْعَمَلِ وَزْنٌ. وَلِلرَّاحَةِ وَزْنٌ.

Prayer has its weight. Love has its weight.
وَلِلصَّلَاةِ وَزْنٌ. وَلِلْحُبِّ وَزْنٌ.

If you drop one, the whole body lies.
إِنْ أَسْقَطْتَ وَاحِدًا كَذَبَ الجَسَدُ كُلُّهُ.

So stand. Breathe. Bow.
فَقُمْ. تَنَفَّسْ. اركَعْ.

Let the day begin from alignment, not urgency.
وَلْيَبْدَأِ النَّهَارُ مِنِ اتِّسَاقٍ لَا مِنِ اسْتِعْجَالٍ.

Let the mind clear like water.
وَلْتَصْفُ النَّفْسُ كَالْمَاءِ.
11
Let the field settle.
وَلْيَهْدَأِ الحَقْلُ.

Then go, and do what is yours.
ثُمَّ امْضِ إِلَى مَا هُوَ لَكَ.
